Reporting Online

In school, we teach how important it is to have a trusted adult to speak to when faced with problems online. We talk about different ways to report and how we need to know different places to report different types of issues.

It is really important to check when using a new device, software or app. It is particularly important to know how to do this when we have the ability to communicate with others.

How to report a problem online...

Remember there are different ways of reporting problems online however, an adult always be informed first before you try to report a problem. They will be able to help you contact the right place to report your problem or concerns.

One of the questions that we have discussed recently is where should I go to report a problem?

If someone is being inappropriate to you online, for example asking for photos, to live stream, etc this would be referred to CEOP.

If someone is being inappropriate to you online, for example being rude, using inappropriate language, etc this would be reported on the platform you are using such as playstation, xbox or through a report button.

Click the link below to find out more about CEOP, what problems they deal with and how to report an issue online.

Reporting Online

Children are taught about reporting online if they feel: unsafe, threatened, at risk or in immediate danger. We teach children to ask questions if anything arises that they are unsure of. Look for the report button on a piece of software, website or app to place a report and take next steps to keep you safe online. Here are some useful links in reference to reporting.

CEOP

For issues regarding sexual abuse or the way someone is communicating with you or your child online, use       CEOP. Here, anyone experiencing these issues (or knows of someone who is) can create a report, which is then referred to a child protection advisor.

We teach children that if they are unsure of where to go, they can always seek additional advice  however a trusted adult is always the first person to tell.

If you identify something inappropriate, a risk, something that is unsafe, etc.

  1. Make sure you leave the thing that you have identified as inappropriate, a risk or something that may be unsafe on the screen/device to show a trusted adult immediately.

  2. Identify the issue, e.g inappropriate language.

  3. Identify where to report it e.g on PlayStation Network.

  4. Reflect: Is there a way we could stop the issue happening again or could we research ways to be safer next time?
